Frequently Asked Questions

More FAQs are included in the mrInterview and Dimensions Data Model sections of the Dimensions Development Library.

Why do I need the Dimensions Data Model if I already have the DDL?

The Dimensions Development Library consists exclusively of documentation and examples—it can't actually access case data or metadata stored in the Dimensions Data Model. The Dimensions Data Model contains binaries and DSCs that make the application program interface (API) active, and allows programs to use it to access information.

The documentation resources in the dynamic linked libraries (DDLs) can be used without the Dimensions Data Model. Dimensions Data Model installation is required, however, for interaction with the Data Model API or with any data or database accessed through the Dimensions Data Model.

How do I get the Dimensions Data Model? How much does it cost?

If you have a licensed copy of any Dimensions products on your machine, you already have a licensed single-user copy of the Dimensions Data Model.

If not, or if you need an update, please contact your SPSS Sales representative.

Where can I find the sample programs and data?

For a detailed guide to locating the sample applications, see Getting Started.

Why do I get an install message stating that C++ isn't present?

Installation of C++ is required only if you plan to create a data source component (DSC) program in C++ using the skeleton project provided in the DDL. Otherwise, this message may safely be ignored.

For more information, see the System Requirements.

When I compile or run some programs, I get messages stating that some DLLs are missing. Why does this happen?

The Dimensions Development Library consists exclusively of documentation and examples—it can't actually access case data or metadata stored in the Dimensions Data Model. The Dimensions Data Model contains binaries and DSCs that make the API active, and allows programs to use it to access information.

The DLLs you need to use the sample applications are provided as part of the Dimensions Data Model. A licensed copy of the Dimensions Data Model must be installed on your machine in order to run these programs.

Can I share the DDL with a colleague?

The Dimensions Development Library is available freely to all, but your license agreement is for a single user only. Additional users must register on this site and accept the terms and provisions of the license agreement in order to license it.

Once that has been done, the user is free to obtain the Dimensions Development Library files from any source. However, SPSS Inc. recommends that you always download the file from the SPSS Web site. This ensures that you always receive current, unaltered, and complete information.

Will there be similar documentation for developing mrInterview "players"?
