SPSS Inc. has a long tradition in education. More than 37 years ago, Norman Nie and several Stanford University classmates developed SPSS for data analysis. Since then, use of SPSS has grown exponentially at academic institutions. Today, SPSS for Windows is taught at all 129 of the top U.S. colleges and universities (“America’s Best Colleges 2005,” U.S. News & World Report).
SPSS software and solutions are now used extensively in both the government and commercial sectors to address a wide range of agency and business needs. However, SPSS remains committed to its roots in the education community. To further academic scholarship and inquiry, SPSS has developed the Academic Authors Program, which is designed for authors creating SPSS-related academic texts**.
The Academic Authors Program was created to ensure that authors like you receive comprehensive support from SPSS throughout the writing process. The program provides you with:
Though SPSS is unable to proactively market your book, SPSS provides promotional support as part of the overall program. Promotional support includes the placement of a description of your book on the our Web site with a link to the publisher’s site, making it easy for instructors to request additional information.
To participate in the program, SPSS asks participating authors to complete the Author’s Enrollment form. The information provided on the form will be included on the textbook section of the SPSS Web site, to help instructors to find the most appropriate textbook for their courses. If you are currently working on a textbook or plan to begin work on a textbook within the next 45, days you are eligible for a 6 month license of SPSS. Authors with completed works not yet listed on the SPSS Web site should also complete the Author's Enrollment form.
A written contract must be signed by the author and SPSS. The author must also provide SPSS with two copies of the completed book, to be added to the SPSS library.
SPSS appreciates the opportunity to foster projects that increase the awareness of SPSS, and enthusiastically works to ensure authors receive all the support they need to complete their projects.
To participate in the Academic Authors Program, or for more information, send an e-mail to books@spss.com.
**While the Academic Authors Program is rooted in scholastic writing, academic affiliation is not necessary, nor does the text have to be strictly for the academic world. All authors planning or working on SPSS-related texts are eligible to participate.
